Is it difficult to be zero waste?
The current climate has made us rethink our lifestyle. There’s no question about it; regardless of what it was that you used to live for and by, there’s a big chance that there’s plenty you can’t do at the moment.
For those of us that live by zero waste values, it doesn’t matter if you were starting or you already were way down the line, adjustments had to be made.
We have heard everything over the last few weeks; from people who believe they still can be 100% zero waste to people who thought they had to go back to the start until this thing is over. The truth is there’s no right answer.
It simply depends on our personal circumstances.
Just as an example, farmer’s markets are closed. That’s a fact. So, can you still compost? That depends on your situation; if you have a big garden you probably have made your own compost whereas if you live in a tiny flat you are likely to have to throw it in the garbage instead of composting.
Personally, we’ve had to make some adjustments. We aren’t 100% zero waste at the moment, and that is okay. We’ll get back to it as soon as possible. But, if we are being honest,…it was tough. We knew it was the right call to make but seeing some people still being able to pull it off (perfectly, if I must say) all over social media just provoked so much guilt that we had to work through.
Because we have gone through it, we thought you may be going through it, too. We wanted to tell you that it’s okay. There’s no right or wrong. Make mindful choices that are right for you. Don’t look at others on social media and allow yourself to feel guilty. Instead, be grateful that others live in certain situations that allow them to keep it up for the planet’s sake and commit to being back at it as soon as you can.
