How we organized a birthday party with no plastic

How difficult can it be to organize a zero waste birthday party?
Well, quite difficult. If you like glitter, decorations, balloons…well, you can forget about all of that. It’s all made of plastic. Most of it is non recyclable plastic and therefore not something we would ever use.
Of course, you can now find some biodegradable alternatives (ie. bio glitter) but it’s not something you can find off the shelf here in Bali.
So for this one, we went without decorations, unfortunately. Other things we did to avoid as much waste as possible were:
- Napkins. We used fabric scraps we had lying around to avoid paper ones.
- Glasses. We’ve been keeping glass jars in order to use them as glasses when we have people over.
- Cook. It was a Mexican dinner and we cooked everything from scratch, in order to avoid as much packaging as possible.
