They say when living together is when you really get to meet someone. So, it is normal that some small issues arise when you share a flat (ie. Someone doesn’t wash the dishes or never cleans), pretty standard.
But what about when those differences are around being eco-friendly and zero waste? We are at this moment where, although people are more conscious and aware about climate change and waste, not everybody is taking action and changing their habits.
Sometimes you can be very conscious and try to reduce your waste and recycle as much as possible and suddenly your new flatmate orders take out 3 times a day and doesn’t even recycle or you are conscious about turning lights off and saving energy whereas they just leave them on all night long.
It is difficult to find people that follow your same lifestyle. In these cases, all you can do is respect their choices and lead by example without any expectations. Hopefully with time they’ll start acknowledging how you do things on your end and swapping their habits to more conscious ones.
