How to make coconut oil at home
Hi there! By now, you should know all about the benefits of using coconuts. If you haven’t noticed at Be ALAM we love to make the most out of them. We think they are great for your skin, your hair, your health and the environment!
We’ve told you how to prepare the perfect hair mask with coconut oil, but now it’s time to tell you how to make that oil from scratch! It’s actually pretty easy and very similar to making coconut milk.
Have you tried that one yet? Check out the recipe here.
There are different ways to make the oil. Either way, you’ll need to follow the coconut milk recipe up to step 3, mixing the grated coconut with water.
Once you’ve gotten there, you have 2 options:
- Leave the milk and water mix to cool down for 24h (or put it in the fridge for faster results) and let the milk and oil separate on their own. You will then be able to scoop out the curd and the coconut oil will remain at the bottom of the jar.
- Boil the coconut and water mix for about an hour, stir constantly. Once it has boiled, the oil will separate and you’ll have your coconut oil.
Both will work perfectly although we rather just let it chill in the fridge. It’s less time consuming!
By doing it yourself, you’ll get a completely organic coconut oil free of preservatives. It’s worth a try, don’t you think?
