Have you met the local tailor we work with?
She is a tailor specialized in natural and organic materials and one of the partners we are so happy to work with. She is originally from the West side of Bali, an area called Jembrana.
She started her own business 15 years ago, back in 2007 she was collaborating with an international brand creating organic baby clothes sold on big online retail platforms. She tells us that the orders from Monday to Thursday were shipped on a Saturday and that on average she would have to make 1000 pieces of clothing, which meant working a crazy amount of hours. She says with a big smile that THAT was real working, that she even got sick from overworking and not getting enough sleep and rest.
Four years ago she closed that part of the business and started collaborating with an Ubud based hospitality company, she is really happy now, she appreciates having a more reasonable schedule and being able to take off and spend quality time with her two daughters.
She is a very talented woman that puts pride in all the work she does, she gets excited every time we ask if it is possible to create a new item from sustainable materials. She tells us she loves it when we present her with new challenges and that she will never show us a sample unless she is convinced it is good.
Komang is a great representation of how strong and determined Balinese women are.
