Is carbon tax the solution to pollution?
Do you know what the Carbon Tax is?
Carbon tax is a form of pollution tax. You might have heard about implementing a carbon tax. Some politicians, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are a big advocate of implementing it. This measure consists of charging a fee on fossil fuels based on how much carbon they emit when burned, with the intention of encouraging businesses and individuals to use less energy derived from fossil fuels. On top of that, the money raised by the tax can help subsidize environmental programs or be issued as a rebate.
Why is it important?
It is important in order to stop the climate crisis. The primary purpose of a carbon tax is to lower greenhouse gas emissions; these are the gases that trap heat in the atmosphere and cause global warming.

What can you do about it?
Well, like with most general and global issues as an individual we don’t feel like our actions count, but voting is one of the ways we have to show what we think about topics like pollution and climate crisis. On the other hand, small actions do make a difference, use public transport instead of the car (or call pool if you don’t have that option), eat local produce and buy responsibly.
In our case, we are aware that shipping items from across the globe doesn’t make much sense, but materials like rattan and bamboo can’t be sourced just anywhere, that is why to counter the carbon footprint of our commercial activity we give part of our proceeds to a voluntary carbon tax.
